Locharburn 2016 Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Rosé, and 2015 Pinot Noir

29-Sep-2016
Locharburn is the Central Otago wine venture of Chris and Jenny Hill, who purchased their site on the Luggate-Cromwell Highway overlooking Lake Dunstan after frequent holiday visits from Taranaki. With 14 ha of plantings to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, they released their first wines with the 2005 vintage. Chris and Jenny are hands-on with the business, with Chris tending to the viticulture and business management, while Jenny, a mixed media and textile artist, looks after marketing and branding. The wines are made by Jody Pagey at the Terra Sancta facility. I have found the terroir of the Locharburn site yields wines that are tight in structure. They benefit from some time bottle to show their true potential. Here, I review the new release 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Rosé, and 2015 Pinot Noir. www.locharburnwines.co.nz
