Leveret Estate 2014 Pinot Noir and Syrahs, and 209 Merlot Cabernet Wines

12-Mar-2015
John Coney’s wine business interests are now in their third decade, and over time have evolved into a collection of wine brands under ‘The Wine Portfolio’ umbrella. The new premium ‘Leveret Estate’ range was launched last year to considerable critical acclaim and top wine show results, and no doubt much of the success can be attributed to the well-established vineyards in Hawke’s Bay and Marlborough. Will Shields from high profile positions in Australia joined as winemaker in 2012, running the Riverview Hawke’s Bay facility, and he has Michael Sweetlove overseeing the Katikati winery. The vineyards are under the care of the experienced Pete Scott. Here I review three 2014 Leveret Estate reds, a Pinot Noir and two Syrahs, and two 2009 vintage Merlot/Cabernet blends, one being the super-premium’ ‘Regent of Tantallon’, all these wines from Hawke’s Bay. www.wineportfolio.co.nz
