Lamont 2013 Pinot Gris, 2012 Riesling and 2011 Pinot Noir

The Lamont wines of Craig and Angela Gasson are making a definite and positive step in their evolution. The 4.5 ha vineyard and vines on Loop Road in Bendigo, Central Otago, planted in 1999 are continuing to grow in balance and the consistency of the vines’ performance has been one of the major factors in the extremely high quality of the fruit. The vineyard gained organic certification in 2009. In making the wines, Craig and his consultant winemaker James McElrae are building in more layers of detail and texture in the Pinot Gris and Riesling, and making the tannin structure of the Pinot Noir more refined and sophisticated. In July this year, I had the opportunity of tasting some wines in the works, demonstrating the steps made (click here to see my report). Now, I review these wines as they are about to be released on the market.
