Julicher Estate 2013 ’99 Rows’ and Martinborough Pinot Noir

27-Apr-2016
Wim Julicher and Sue Darling operate Julicher Estate, one of Martinborough’s most consistent highest quality wine producers. Their immaculate 20 ha vineyard on Te Muna Road has as its neighbours Escarpment Vineyard, Big Sky and Craggy Range on the same side of the road, with Pond Paddock, Te Hera and Redbank over the road. The Julicher Estate vineyard was established in 1998 with the first vintage in 2002. Outi Jakovirta has been the winemaker since 2005, and James Pittard is the vineyard supervisor. Although Julicher has a very strong range of wines, Pinot Noir is the star, and both the ‘Estate’ and second label ’99 Rows’ bottling have been very successful in wine shows over the years, various vintages winning gold medals and ‘Champion Wine of the Show’ awards. Here, I review the 2013 vintage releases, the growing season one of the district’s best to date. www.julicher.co.nz
