Last year I reviewed the 2012 Drouhin ‘Laforet’ and Macon-Villages as wines to introduce what is regarded a special white burgundy vintage (click here to see my review). 2012 is an extremely low yield vintage but a very high quality one. Frost, hail, poor flowering with mildew and odium played their part along with extreme temperatures, confounding the vignerons. Although only 50% of the normal crops were harvested, the fruit was clean and clearly high in quality. Here, I review the 2012 village Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. They show the typical and classical house style of elegance and subtlety as well as the classical appellation characteristics. www.drouhin.com The wines are distributed in New Zealand by EuroVintage. www.eurovintage.co.nz
