Joseph Drouhin 2012 Laforet and Macon-Villages Blanc

19-Apr-2014
The 2012 vintage in Burgundy is marked by extremely low yields, but correspondingly the potential for very high quality. Frost, hail, poor flowering, with mildew and odium were compounded by extreme temperatures. The saving grace was the absence of rot, and the yields, as low as 50% that of average on the Cote de Beaune, meant that ripeness was achieved. The berries in 2012 have thick skins. Drouhin dub 2012 as "a great and very rare vintage, and even the introductory whites are well-regarded. Here, I review the ‘Laforet’ Bourgogne and Macon-Villages. www.drouhin.com The wines are distributed in New Zealand by EuroVintage. www.eurovintage.co.nz
