Johanneshof ‘Emmi’ Methode 2008

23-May-2016
Johanneshof is arguably better known for its range of Marlborough aromatic white wines, particularly the Gewurztraminer which is a consistent gold medal and trophy winner. However, those who know proprietors Warwick Foley and Edel Everling well, will be aware that quality sparkling wine is possibly their greatest passion. Over the years they have invested in the specialised equipment for making this wine style, and they have conducted numerous trials and blends which involve extended aging on lees. They have also managed to build up stocks of sparkling wine to enable their release at the appropriate time. The premier sparkling label is ‘Emmi’, which also is the flagship for Johanneshof. Here, I review the 2008 vintage, which has spent nearly 7 years on lees. www.johanneshof.co.nz
