Johanneshof 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling, and 2014 Gewurztraminer

Edel Everling and Warwick Foley celebrated their 25th vintage in New Zealand in 2015. They have rightly become highly regarded for their Marlborough aromatic wines, building on their German training and experience. However, they have not stood still, but kept abreast of the modern market preferences for freshness and elegance. To this end, with the Sauvignon Blanc they have left the oak-influenced style in favour of stainless-steel and earlier bottling. Similarly, with Pinot Gris, the winemaker inputs are kept to a minimum, and they have now bottled these two wines with screwcap closures. The Riesling and Gewurztraminer wines, icons for Johanneshof and Marlborough, have continued to be made in their award winning way – after all, why change an already successful formula for these top wines? Here, I review the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling, and the 2014 Gewurztraminer.
