Innocent Bystander 2016 Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Pinot Noir

The ‘Innocent Bystander’ brand was created by Phil Sexton in the Yarra Valley to make affordable modern wines. The brand has been a huge success with the company reaching a 70,000 case annual production. Sexton and winemaker Steve Flamsteed made a significant impact on the market with their Pink Moscato wines, especially in the U.S.A. Earlier this year, Sexton sold Innocent Bystander to Brown Brothers, so he could focus on his ‘Giant Steps’ single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir label. Brown Brothers has continued the projects, with chief winemaker Joel Tilbrook personally involved in the sourcing and making of accessible wine in partnerships, which included a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with te Pa, and a Central Otago Pinot Noir with Maude. I review the wines here.
