Highfield Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

28-Jul-2016
The Highfield name originates from the area near Galway in Ireland where the Walsh family who settled in Marlborough in 1935 came from. Following the lead of the first grape growers in the district, Bill Walsh planted grapes then opened his Highfield winery. In 1991, Japanese industrialist Shin Yokai and businessman Tom Tenuwera purchased the operation. In 2014, Highfield merged with TerraVin to form Highfield TerraVin. The merger has brought vineyards to Highfield and a winery for TerraVin, but both brands retain their individuality and identities. Highfield winemaker Al Soper continues to make first-class Sauvignon Blanc, which sits just under the mantle of the flagship ‘Elstree Cuvee’ methode traditionnelle. Here, I review the 2015 Highfield Sauvignon Blanc. www.highfield.co.nz
