Hawkshead Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

05-Jun-2013
The Hawkshead wines of Denis Marshall and Ulricke Kurenbach are steadily growing in stature in style and presence. Though their vineyard is situated in the Gibbston Valley, they have sourced high quality fruit from other sub-regions in Central Otago to extend their range of wines on offer. The prestige single vineyard tier has a Bannockburn wine in addition to their ‘First Vines’ Gibbston Pinot Noir (click here to see my review of the 2010 ‘First Vines’). I find the Hawkshead wines both white and red are becoming more seriously textured, making them particularly good with food. The 2011 Pinot Noirs were made by Chris Keys and Steve Davies, but veteran Central Otago winemaker Dean Shaw has made the 2012s onwards. Here I review the Hawkshead 2011 Pinot Noirs that are currently available. www.hawksheadwine.com
