Harrier Haven 2015 Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay and Syrah

29-Feb-2016
Harrier Haven is the label of Sue Mattsen, an IT professional who has realised a dream of owning a vineyard by purchasing a block of bare land on State Highway 50 in the Bridge Pa Triangle district in 2007 and close-planted 4 ha of Viognier, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec and other Bordeaux varieties. The vineyard is Sue’s "paradise” and her intentions are "to make good quality wine and have a place everyone loves”. Sue has Jeremy Sherratt look after the viticulture and Ash Ridge making the wines. The 2015s are her first releases. I review the inaugural Chardonnay and Syrah wines here, the former wine made from fruit from the Ash Ridge vineyard.
