Haha Marlborough Chardonnay 2015

01-Feb-2016
Employing the virtual winery model, the ‘Haha’ label of Fern Ridge Wines is one of the modern success stories that stands out to me. General manager Ash Ireland has plenty of marketing acumen, and combined with the fruit selection and winemaking expertise of John Belsham, there has been a run of very good consumer-friendly wines released. While Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from Marlborough are the key wines, the range has been extended to other varietals, with the Chardonnay first released from the 2013 vintage. This was a toasty, well-oaked wine. The second release, the 2014 was a more contemporary style with greater elegance and a focus on the fruit. Here, I review the third release from the 2015 vintage, which continues the style of the 2014. www.hahawine.co.nz
