Greystone Waipara Valley 2014 Pinot Gris and Riesling, and 2013 Pinot Noir

Now in its second decade of wine releases, Greystone Wines is recognised as one of the leaders in the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury. The range of wines from 37 ha of vines on a sizeable 120 ha property is exemplary, and the style of elegance and finesse with detailed complexities clearly emanates from the carefully sited vines, matched to the topography and soil, as well as the expert viticulture under Nick Gill and sensitive winemaking by Dom Maxwell. Greystone has great Pinot Noir as its focus, and the wines made over the years proven to be extremely successful in that regard. Many see the aromatic whites at the same level, and I’m in agreement there. Here, I review the new 2014 Pinot Gris and Riesling releases, from a challenging, wet vintage, along with the 2013 Pinot Noir from an outstanding warm and dry harvest.
