Goldie 2014 Chardonnay, Syrahs, and 2013-2011 Bordeaux Blends

27-Aug-2015
Goldie Wines is the legacy of Kim and Jeannette Goldwater’s pioneering vineyard on Waiheke Island, now part of the Wine Science Facility of the University of Auckland. Originally established in 1978 and producing a 1982 Cabernet Sauvignon as the first wine, Goldwater Estate began the modern era of winegrowing on the island. The donation of the vineyards, cellar door and venue facilities and winery in 2011 to the University of Auckland enables a practical working site for the education and development of post-graduate students under the Wine Sciences programme. Goldie Wines remains a commercial business with 7 ha of vineyards producing up to 3,000 cases annually, and this is supplemented with wines made from other region providing an extra 1,500 cases. Heinrich Storm is the winemaker. Here, I review a selection of new current Waiheke Island releases. www.goldiewines.co.nz
