Gladstone Vineyard and 12,000 Miles Refreshing 2014 Releases

23-Jan-2015
Christine Kernohan believes 2014 will be an "over delivering vintage”, being one of the warmest over the last decade in the Gladstone district of the Wairarapa. The growing season tracked two weeks earlier than normal, and the flowering for the different varieties was condensed. There was a need for much viticultural work to manage the potentially high yields, but with most of the fruit in before the rains of early April, Christine reports the resultant wines are showing excellent varietal character, good fruit weight, ripeness, and bright acidity. Viticulturist Kyle Mason is continuing his work towards organic certification, and winemaker Alexis Moore completed her second full harvest at Gladstone Vineyard with the 2014 vintage. It’s a bright start to 2015 for the team at Gladstone Vineyard. Here, I review a selection of 2014 whites that will be refreshing and enjoyable over the warmer months. They show a move in the direction of greater elegance. www.gladstonevineyard.co.nz
