Gladstone Vineyard and 12,000 Miles Pinot Gris, and 12,000 Miles Sauvignon Blanc 2015

13-Apr-2016
Last month, I visited Gladstone Vineyard and had some time with new winemaker and viticulturist Craig Fryett who had arrived in August last year, after 11 years with Te Kairanga Vineyard in Martinborough. Craig discussed his and owner Christine Kernohan’s approach of making the Gladstone Vineyard wines with greater differentiation between the tiers, the second label ’12,000 Miles’ to have clearer fruit focus, while the ‘Gladstone Vineyard’ wines to show greater intensity, structure and complexity. Craig was responsible for finishing the 2015 vintage wines, so we may see the beginnings of the work towards their goal. Here, I review the 12,000 Miles Sauvignon Blanc, and 12,000 Miles and Gladstone Vineyard Pinot Gris, all from the 2015 vintage. www.gladstonevineyard.co.nz
