Georges Road 2015 Pinot Gris and 2014 Pinot Noir

01-Dec-2015
The ‘Georges Road’ Waipara label continues to gain followers as the stylish wines of Kirk Bray become more appreciated. Kirk has neat 8 ha rectangular vineyard planted to 6,000 vines, one-quarter each to Pinot Gris and Syrah and the remaining half to Riesling. Kirk also obtains Pinot Noir fruit from the ‘Williams’ vineyard next to Black Estate. The aromatic wines have proven to be refined beauties, no doubt a result of his time in Germany, and the Pinot Noir and Syrah showing how well these varieties are suited to the district. Kirk has recently pulled out 1.5 ha of Riesling and considering planting more Syrah, due to its growing popularity. And last year he built a winery on site, something he has been threatening to do for a number of years. It means he has much greater control of the picking and processing now. Here, I review the 2015 ‘Selection’ Pinot Gris and 2014 ‘Williams Hill’ Pinot Noir. www.georgesroadwines.co.nz
