Four Hawk Day 2015 Rosé and 2014 Reserve Sauvignon Blan

23-Dec-2015
The ‘Four Hawk Day’ brand is the own label of Adrian Landon-Lane and Jo Janssen who have been growing grapes in the Waihopai Valley foothills since 1993 as contract fruit suppliers. Their 6.5 ha of Sauvignon Blanc and 1 ha of Pinot Noir was recently supplemented with some Pinot Gris, but they have obtained fruit from a neighbouring site until their vines come to fruition. Their inaugual vintage was in 2012 and there has been steady progress in commercialising the wines that are made by the experienced David Tyney. The name ‘Four Hawk Day’ refers to a family game of sighting hawks in the skies, the rare occurrence of four being ‘the best possible day’. Here, I review the 2015 Rosé and 2014 ‘Reserve’ Sauvignon Blanc. www.fourhawkday.co.nz
