Fairbourne Estate is the specialist venture of Russell Hooper and Sarah Inkersell, two highly experienced and passionate Marlborough wine people who have set out to craft world class wine based on Marlborough, and New Zealand's most widely planted and recognised variety. Russell's marketing expertise with Cellier Le Brun, Grove Mill and Highfield, along with Sarah's winemaking since 1993, combined with their intimate knowledge of soils and sites have enabled them make Sauvignon Blanc that is clearly varietal, yet very different from mainstream. The fruit is sourced from the ‘Skyedale' vineyard in the Wairau Valley, an elevated, low-yielding site with clay gravel soils, quite unusual for planting Sauvignon Blanc.
