Fairbourne and Edgehill 2014 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

05-Jun-2015
Russell Hooper and Sarah Inkersell are champions of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Their aim is to showcase refined, elegant and classical Marlborough expressions of the variety that stand tall alongside the best examples of the Loire. To that end, they seek purity, detail and finesse, which they believe is best obtained from north-facing vineyards in the Southern Valleys region. (Click here to see my report on visiting Fairbourne in 2013.) Fruit purity is sought after, and only the most sensitive inputs are employed. In my opinion Russell and Sarah have achieved their aim, as my comparisons with the top Pouilly-Fume and Sancerre wines have shown. Here, I review the new 2014 Fairbourne and Edgehill Sauvignon Blancs. www.fairbourne.co.nz
