Fairbourne 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Reassessment

25-Nov-2015
Russell Hooper and Sarah Inkersell have hung their hats on Sauvignon Blanc, the most planted variety in Marlborough and the most important wine for New Zealand. Their aim is to produce refined, elegant and ageworthy Sauvignon Blancs that showcase the finesse that can be obtained with fruit from hillside vineyards in the Southern Valleys made in the most meticulous manner with only the most delicate of winemaker inputs. The wines made to date indeed show they have succeeded, and are appreciated on the international scene especially. Local tasters used to the more up-front and accessible styles need to re-tune their thinking and palates to let the Fairbourne wines show what they are about! Here, I reassess the 2013 vintage wine, last reviewed over 18 months ago. www.fairbourne.co.nz
