Dunstan Road Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

04-Nov-2014
Dunstan Road Wines is a small, family owned winegrowing operation based on a 2 ha vineyard established on Waikerikeri soils on the northern side of the Clutha River near the Alexandra airport in 2002. The vineyard was planted by Marc Hatfield who is responsible for the viticulture and winemaking. The vineyard is dedicated to Pinot Noir, with Abel, 10/5, 777, 667, 114 and 115 clones taking 28 rows of the 31, the rest given to one row each of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. Marc and his partner Sarah live on site, where there is a small winery and tasting room. I visited Dunstan Road Wines while at the Alexandra Basin Winegrowers New Release event at the end of October (click here to see my report), and I tasted the up-coming new release whites and barrel samples of the 2013 Pinot Noir. Here, I review the inaugural Pinot Noir from the 2011 vintage. www.dunstanroadwines.co.nz
