Dry River 2013 Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, and 2012 Pinot Noir

09-Apr-2014
It has been a great pleasure seeing Wilco Lam grow into the role of winemaker at Dry River with increasing confidence. Recently catching up with founders Neil and Dawn McCallum, they expressed the same sentiments, and I know that general manager Ant Mackenzie relies on him as the man on the spot. This was evident in Wilco’s enthusiasm and sense of ownership of the wines at the recent 2014 Autumn Release tasting when I previewed the wines (click here to read my report). This release marks the showing of the 2013 whites, the first which Wilco has been solely responsible for from fruit on the vines to bottling. The 2012 Pinot Noir comes from a very cool growing season, but the quality of all of the wines reflect the maturity of the vineyards and the established way of making the wine, that Wilco continues. Here are my ‘Feature Reviews’ of the wines conducted under more strict conditions than at the mail order tasting. www.dryriver.co.nz
