Dog Point Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014

22-Dec-2014
In the short time of a decade, the Dog Point label has become synonymous with Marlborough innovation. Ivan Sutherland and James Healy have built on their long industry experience into making wines which are more complex, textured and longer-lived that is the norm for the region. In October this year, I attended ‘A Decade of Dog Point’, a celebratory tasting of all the wines made since Ivan, James and their families had their own winery in 2004. (Click here to see my article.) The tasting was a revelation, showing the quality of the wines and their ability to hold well and develop. The most remarkable in terms of longevity was the Sauvignon Blanc. At ten years of age, the 2004 vintage was in very good condition. The latest releases incorporated lees work which added layers of interest. The style of the wine is heading well away from the archetypical and stereotypical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The 2014 wine was the very first wine of over 40 tasted. I review the wine again, here. www.dogpoint.co.nz
