Desert Heart ‘Untamed Heart’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2011

13-May-2016
The ‘Desert Heart’ brand continues to live with Denny Downie and Jane Gill trading with wine stock made from their Felton Road, Bannockburn vineyard before it was sold to Sam Neill of Two Paddocks. Denny and Jane have supplemented their Felton Road wine with small quantities of other wines to complete their portfolio, as well as setting up for future releases with fruit from their extensive network of friends in the district. In the meantime, follower can enjoy the fruits of their original labour. The ‘Untamed Heart’ Pinot Noir 2011 has just been released. This is an ‘alternative’ blend to the premium ‘Desert Heart’ label, made at the same level of quality, but in a different style. True to its name, the 2010 ‘Untamed Heart’ was more complex and funky than the regular ‘Desert Heart’ bottling, in the best possible way. Here is my review of the 2011. It is less ‘feral’ than the 2010, and suits the structure of the vintage. www.desertheart.co.nz
