Desert Heart 2015 Mackenzies Run and 2009 Paint it Black Pinot Noirs

18-Oct-2016
Denny Downie and Jane Gill have continued making wines under the Desert Heart brand, despite selling their beloved vineyard at the end of Felton Road, Bannockburn which they established in 2000. They still have stocks of selected wines made from their original site, but friends and neighbours have come to their assistance in providing fruit, such is their standing in the wine community, that they have maintained their production while they establish a new vineyard. Here, I review the new 2015 ‘Mackenzies Run Reserve’ Pinot Noir, fruit from the ‘Kingsmill’ vineyard, the wine made by Francis Hutt, the wine named after their special Border Collie dog, and the 2009 ‘Paint in Black’ Pinot Noir, made from selected parcels of fruit from the original vineyard by dear friend Alan Brady, the wine released as a 10th anniversary remembrance of the passing of Jane’s brother Bryce Gill who was a noted All Blacks supporter. www.desertheart.co.nz
