DeMorgenzon ‘DMZ’ Chardonnay 2015

12-Jul-2016
I have a lot of admiration for Misha Taylor and Jonty Hamer of Procure Liquor as they search the world for interesting and exciting wines that offer quality and value to the New Zealand wine scene. Recently they began bringing in the DeMorgenzon wines of Wendy and Hyylton Appelbaum who are based in the Stellenbosch district in South Africa. The Appelbaums grow sustainably with environmental sensitivity, and play Baroque music to the vines and in the winery, believing it has a beneficial effect. More importantly for the consumer, the wines have fared exceptionally well in the international judging scene, their ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay 2015 recently picking up the 2016 Decanter World Wine Award for Chardonnay of the Show. Here, I review it’s ‘little’ brother. www.demorgenzon.co.zawww.procureliquor.co.nz
