Cooks Cove 2015 Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, and 2014 Merlot

29-Jan-2016
Cooks Cove is a brand belonging to Longbush Wines of Gisborne, the winegrowing venture of John Thorpe, veteran winemaker for over 25 years. Cooks Cove refers to Yorkshireman, James Cook who arrived on the East Coast in 1769, bringing him to Cook’s Cove in search of fresh water. There is also the tenuous connection that another Yorkshireman, Roy Johnson, is the ‘last man standing’, tending his 4 ha vineyard at Tolaga Bay near to Cook’s Cove, a district which used to boast over 650 ha. Fruit for the label is sourced from this site. www.longbushwines.com
