Coal Pit Central Otago Rosé 2016

09-Nov-2016
Coal Pit Wine is the Gibbston Central Otago wine business of Rosie Dunphy who in 2001 purchased the operation with vines established on a historical coal pit site in 1994. Revitalising all aspects, she commissioned the building of a 30 tonne winery on site in 2007 to process the 5.5 ha of Pinot Noir and 2.0 ha of Sauvignon Blanc. Rosie’s winemaker is Lynn Horton, whose husband Gary Crabbe is the Coal Pit viticulturist. The wines are well regarded and recently the 2014 ‘Tiwha’ Pinot Noir has performed exceptionally well in wine competitions. Here, I review the new release 2016 Rosé. www.coalpitwine.com
