Circuit 2015 Pinot Gris and 2014 Pinot Noir

18-Feb-2016
Black Estate in North Canterbury has introduced a new range of wines under the ‘Circuit’ label. The fruit for the wines comes from a ‘circuit’ of committed North Canterbury growers as well as from their own vineyards, and the wines are made to the same standards as the Black Estate bottlings. The ‘Circuit’ label serves to further highlight the quality of North Canterbury vineyards and will offer greater accessibility of wines made by the Black Estate team. There will be a focus on the use of organically grown fruit and Black Estate will be assisting growers in converting to organic practices. The Black Estate wines will only be single vineyard wines from their estate owned hillside vineyards. Here, I review the inaugural ‘Circuit’ releases, a 2015 Pinot Gris and 2014 Pinot Noir, the former a particularly good introduction to ‘orange’ or skin contact wines. www.circuitwine.co.nz
