Charles Wiffen 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot

08-Feb-2016
The Charles Wiffen label is a strong one with a consistent, high quality range of wines across a surprisingly broad portfolio of varieties and styles. The wines reflect their Lower Wairau and Southern Valleys origins with their more restrained fruit expression and textural style. The fruit is tended by Melissa Sutherland and Jason Tripe, and winemaking is under the care of Anthony Ivicevich and James Rowan at West Brook, who work at maintaining the successful styles. Here, I review the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and 2015 Merlot, the latter a wine with considerable viticultural and winemaking input to ensure as much ripeness as possible is exhibited. www.charleswiffenwines.co.nz
