Charles Wiffen 2014 Chardonnay and 2011 Riesling

07-May-2015
The Marlborough wines of Charles and Sandi Wiffen seem to slip under the radar for many wine enthusiasts, but they have a very loyal following among wine lovers who enjoy high-quality, no-fuss, good value bottles. The Wiffen family owns around 50 ha of prime vineyards in the lower Wairau and Southern Valleys, and the vines are fully mature. The fruit is tended with great care by viticulturists Jason Tripe and Melissa Sutherland, and the wine made with real sensitivity at West Brook winery by Anthony Ivicevich and James Rowan. The result is a very strong set of wines which are recognised for their quality by wine judges and those ‘in the know’. Here, I review the new release 2014 Chardonnay and 2011 Riesling, launched without great fanfare, but eagerly awaited by the Wiffen’s fans. www.charleswiffenwines.co.nz
