Ceres ‘Swansong Vineyard’ Central Otago Pinot Gris 2015

09-Sep-2016
The ‘Ceres’ label is that of the influential Central Otago wine family headed Robin Dicey. Robin has been responsible for the identification and planting of some of the region’s best vineyards, and his sons James and Matt play pivotal roles in viticulture and winemaking. The family have their own vineyards in Bannockburn, the ‘Inlet’, ‘Black Rabbit’, ‘Full Circle’ and ‘Swansong’ sites. The premium wines released have come under the ‘Composition’ label, these invariably being blends of fruit from the different sites. But as the vines have matured and the vineyards come into balance, the Diceys ae releasing single vineyard wines which capture the essence of each site. Here, I review the 2015 ‘Swansong’ Pinot Gris. The ‘Swansong’ vineyard overlooks Mt Difficulty’s ‘Target Gully’ site and was planted in 2008 to Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, the latter interplanted with 10% Gewurztraminer. www.cereswines.co.nz
