Caythorpe Family Estate is the Marlborough winegrowing venture of the Bishell family who have a history of sheep farming and cropping on Middle Renwick Road, ancestor David Bishell arriving in New Zealand in 1876 from Caythorpe, Lincolnshire. The family with fifth generation Simon Bishell, have been long time contract grape growers, first planting Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in 1987. They now have 110 ha of vines, with Riesling and Chardonnay also planted. The Bishells have now embarked on their own label releasing a Sauvignon Blanc from the 2015 vintage, and they intend to add Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to the portfolio. They have contracted as their winemaker the very experienced Jeremy McKenzie using the Isabel facility. www.caythorpe.nz
