The Cantine Leonardo da Vinci co-operative was established in 1961 when 30 grape farmers banded together to determine their own destiny following problems encountered with the break-down of the share-cropping system. Today, there are over 160 members in this innovative and thoroughly modern business based in the borough of Vinci, and the wines and label pays homage to Leonardo da Vinci who was born in a village just 5 km away. In my retail life, I enjoyed selling the Cantine Leonardo wines as they offered typicity of character, the wines reflecting their variety and origins, and offering excellent value. Browns of Padthaway ‘T-Trellis' Shiraz 2010
Included for review from EuroVintage, one of New Zealand's largest fine wine distributors was a Browns of Padthaway wine. The Brown family have been grape growers in Padthaway for 32 years, from 1970, but released their own label wines in 1995, but remain significant growers with 320 ha of vineyards, over two sites. www.browns-of-padthaway.com
