Cable Bay 2015 Awatere Pinot Gris, Sauvignon and Reserve Sauvignon

Cable Bay has been growing its reputation as a New Zealand producer with wines from its Awatere Valley vineyards and from Central Otago fruit, supplementing the original plantings on Waiheke Island. Owners Loukas and Caroline Petrou have also continued to invest in the cellar door and restaurants at their facilities on Waiheke Island to provide a complete visitor experience. The Petrous have Sam Theed of Vingro, and Bart Arnst tending their Waiheke and Marlborough vineyards respectively, and Chloe Somerset (nee Parkinson) as winemaker. Having considerable experience with the Waiheke Island fruit, Chloe is relishing the development of the fruit and wines from the relatively new Awatere Valley holdings. Here, I review the new 2015 Awatere Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and barrel-fermented ‘Reserve’ Sauvignon Blanc.
