Cable Bay 2012 Five Hills, Syrah and Sweet Gloria

06-Dec-2013
The home vineyards of Cable Bay have a fine history of producing top flight wine with the classic varieties that perform best on Waiheke Island: Chardonnay, the Bordeaux-varietals, Syrah and Viognier. Proprietor and winemaker Neill Culley has a deft hand at interpreting the fruit and crafting elegant wines that show finesse and interest. Neill has been joined by Chloe Parkinson who started in time for the 2013 vintage. Chloe has had extensive winemaking experience around the world, most recently in Burgundy and Australia previous to there. 2012 was a warmer and drier vintage than the challenging 2011 harvest and the wines show good structure and fruit brightness from long heat accumulation. Here, I review three Cable Bay wines from 2012 from the classical Waiheke Island varieties. www.cablebayvineyards.co.nz
