  Bushmere Estate is the wine label of David and Shona Egan, grapegrowers in Gisborne for 48 years. All changed when the large companies stopped renewing their grape supply contracts in the early-mid 2000s, so the Egans, as well as other growers established their own label with wines from the 2005 vintage. At that time they established on S.H. 2 their cellar door complex which has a restaurant with it. The Egans have 17 ha of vines in the Central Valley, mainly Chardonnay, along with smaller amounts of Gewurztraminer, Viognier, Montepulciano and Sangiovese. The Bushmere Estate wines are made by Amelia Riwai, initially at Matariki, moving to Alpha Domus where the Egans have contracted tank space. The wines are well-made and have earned good medal awards at shows.

  Bright, light strawberry-pink with some depth, the bubbles are moderately fine and persistent. The bouquet is fresh and inviting, displaying aromas of field strawberries, citrus, rose petals and a subtle creamy underlay. Medium-light bodied, dry to taste, the palate is fresh with freshly picked strawberries, lemon; entwined with roses and black pepper. The mouthfeel is lightly creamed, buoyant acidity balanced with the right amount of sweetness. This is a straightforward, vibrant sparkling rosé with the fragrance of fresh strawberries, citrus and roses and lightly creamy detail. Serve as an aperitif over the next 2-3 years.   Bright, evenly light yellow with some depth and a slightly green hue. The nose is gentle with soft nuances of stonefruit, pear, melded with almonds, lemon curd and oak spices. Medium-full bodied, aromas of stonefruit, apple, pear and lemon curd; enriched by nutty and spicy oak detail. The nutty oak is integrated with subtlely attractive caramel and butterscotch nuances. The breadth of the palate is lightly creamed with flavours of lemon curd, along with a fine layer of phenolic texture; drives with mouthwatering acid to a harmonious, lingering finish. This is an elegant Chardonnay with stonefruit, lemon curd flavours, nutty oak detail and balanced by lively acidity on a harmonious, long finish. Match with whitefish and pork over the next 3-4 years. Barrel-fermented to 13% alc. French oak barriques used, 30% new, 20% 1 year old and 50% seasoned. 20% MLF.
