Brodie Estate 2016 Dry Riesling, Angel’s Sigh, Iced Pinot and Noble Riesling

10-Mar-2017
Brodie Estate is the boutique Martinborough Pinot Noir venture of James and Ann Brodie who have a 9 ha property on Dublin Road. There are 4.05 ha of Pinot Noir planted to Dijon clones 777, 667, 114, 115 and with clone 5, planted in 2001. The Brodies also grow olives, have their cellar door, winemaking facilities and a cottage for accommodation, plus Ann’s art studio on site. The Pinot Noir fruit goes towards a table wine Pinot Noir primarily, with rosé and sweet wine made from the fruit. There is a Methode sparkling, Chardonnay, and dry and sweet Riesling also made with contracted fruit from the district. James takes his winemaking seriously, giving much thought to the styles, such that the wines have quality, diversity and interest. Here, I review the 2016 vintage releases of Dry Riesling, ‘The Angel’s Sigh’ Rosé, ‘Iced’ Pinot and Noble Riesling. www.brodieestate.co.nz
