Brodie Estate 2015 Chardonnay and 2014 Pinot Noir

24-Aug-2016
James and Ann Brodie operate Brodie Estate with 4.05 ha of Pinot Noir planted in 2001 on their 9 ha property on Dublin Road in Martinborough. The Brodies are very thoughtful about the making of their wine which is carried out on site. The annual production of red wine is around 1,000 cases, and this is supplemented by a rosé and a sweet wine. There has also been a sparkling wine, and a dry Riesling is in the works which will broaden the portfolio. In 2014 they obtained Chardonnay from the ‘Croft’ vineyard on Pirinoa Road. The use of a new puncheon saw up-front oak character, but it was an attractive wine (click here to see my review). Here I review the 2015 Chardonnay, the puncheon now second use, and the new release 2014 Pinot Noir. James tells me for 2015 and 2016, he has included some whole cluster with the Pinot Noir. There are interesting developments at Brodie Estate! www.brodieestate.co.nz
