Brennan Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

26-Feb-2016
Brennan Wines was established in 1994 by the Brennan family who have owned land in the district for over three decades. The Brennan vineyard, in Gibbston, is the first travellers from Cromwell driving to Queenstown reach, coming out of the Kawarau Gorge. The Brennans sold their fruit to Peregrine until they established their own label with the 2006 vintage. The vineyard is now 13 ha in size with Pinot Noir accounting for 80% of the plantings. Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Tempranillo are also planted, and fruit is sourced from neighbouring vineyard to make the range on offer. The Pinot Noir wines, particularly the ‘B2’ bottling has enjoyed critical success in wine shows. Sean Brennan is the winemaker, joined in 2014 by Sarah Burton, ex-Cloudy Bay. Sarah blended and bottled the 2012 vintage. Here, I review the 2012 Brennan Pinot Noir, still to reach the market, the current release wine being the 2010. www.brennanwines.com
