Black Estate ‘Omihi Series’

27-Apr-2012

The progress that Black Estate in the Waipara Valley has made since the Naish family ownership from 2007 has been very pleasing. The site, already proven to be a quality one, has been taken further, and not only have the wines shown more depth and character, but their recognition in the marketplace has increased considerably. In line with the continued interest by winegrower to express terroir, and the uptake by the wine enthusiast in learning and enjoying the wines from specific soils and sites, Black Estate has released the ‘Omihi Series' of wines "which aims to express the brilliance of various soils that lie across separate vineyards on the Omihi slopes of Waipara Valley”. Winemaker Nicholas Brown makes the wine "traditionally and naturally as possible”, striving to express each site faithfully. I review the inaugural ‘Omihi Series' releases from the 2010 vintage, as well as the estate-grown 2010 Pinot Noir. www.blackestate.co.nz
