Black Cottage Pinot Gris and Two Rivers ‘L’Ile de Beaute’ Rosé 2016

31-Aug-2016
Since Dave Clouston established his ‘Two Rivers’ Marlborough brand in 2004, he has been steadily growing the depth and breadth of his range, adding the secondary ‘Black Cottage’ label, which has been a great success. Dave also makes wine under contract for ‘Starborough’ and ‘SOHO’, and this adds respect to his reputation. He has now made the next leap in the development of his business with the acquisition of a 9.3 ha hillside block in the Omaka Valley with 6.0 ha of vines on it established in 2000. The ‘Brookby Hill’ vineyard is close-planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Syrah and Viognier. The vineyard now serves as the base for Dave Clouston’s ‘Two Rivers’ operation, and will be a premium fruit source. Here, I review the 2016 Black Cottage Pinot Gris, and Two Rivers ‘L’Ile de Beaute’ Rosé, the latter wine incorporating for the first time, fruit from the ‘Brookby Hill’ vineyard. www.blackcottage.co.nz  www.tworivers.co.nz
