Bishops Head and Middle Terrace Waipara Valley Releases

31-Jan-2017
Bishops Head is the Waipara Valley winegrowing venture founded by Peter Saunders in 2006, who is the general manager and winemaker, of the operation which comes under the Cook Vintners umbrella. Peter has had extensive winemaking experience overseas as well as New Zealand, and the Bishops Head wines are made in a traditional style reflecting his accumulated work. Peter introduced the ‘Rockface’ secondary tier to be varietal expressions and offer greater accessibility. He has now created ‘Middle Terrace’, a range of wines that fits between the top Bishops Head and the Rockface wines. It is named after one of the company’s vineyard blocks from where most of the fruit is sourced. Here I review the new 2016 Middle Terrace Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc, and 2015 Pinot Noir, as well as the 2015 Bishops Head Chenin Blanc and Fumé Blanc and 2014 Chardonnay. www.bishopshead.co.nz
