Bannock Brae Cathy’s Rosé 2014

05-Dec-2014
There’s an interesting mix of wines in Crawford and Catherine Brown’s Bannock Brae portfolio. They set up their venture in 1998 with the goals of enjoying the Central Otago environment and making fine Pinot Noir. Along the way they’ve added a barrel-fermented Riesling and Gruner Veltliner to the two Pinot Noirs they produce. Every two years they release a rosé named after Cathy, who "is the better looking half of the partnership”. The fruit for the rosé is grown especially for the style, rather than the wine being saigneed which they see as a ‘compromise’ method of making it. Here, I review the 2014 ‘Cathy’s’ Rosé. www.bannockbrae.co.nz
