Bannock Brae Barrel Selection Pinot Noir 2013

Crawford and Catherine Brown enjoyed success from their first vintage of Pinot Noir in 2001 from their boutique vineyard on Cairnmuir Road in Bannockburn, near Cromwell in Central Otago. Although they make a rosé and Gruner Veltliner from their own fruit, plus a Riesling from grapes from a neighbouring site, Pinot Noir is the focus, with the ‘Barrel Selection’ being the flagship wine. Their vineyard seems particularly suited to the variety, as through different growing conditions, vintages and different winemakers, the quality always comes through. The Pinot Noirs figure among the most awarded from Central Otago. Here, I review the 2013 ‘Barrel Selection’ Pinot Noir, made by Sarah-Kate Dineen at the Maude winery facility.
