Ballasalla Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

07-Mar-2014
The Ballasalla Pinot Noir is the second label of Folding Hill. I’ve been impressed with this lesser tier from Tim Kerruish and his syndicate, as they take great care with their Bendigo site and I’m sure the separation of what is generally high quality fruit into two levels must be difficult. There is also an ‘Orchard Block’ wine, from a small, clearly defined plot of clone 5 vines. The vineyard produces hearty and fulsome wines which have great consumer appeal and this is seen in all of the Folding Hill and Ballasalla wines. Here, I review the Ballasalla Pinot Noir from the more elegant and aromatic 2012 vintage, made with the winemaking consultancy of Fred Riends. www.foldinghill.co.nz
