Ballasalla is the second label of Folding Hill, the Bendigo winegrowing operation of Mosgiel-based doctor Tim Kerruish and friends. Folding Hill came to prominence last year with its 2009 Pinot Noir being awarded a gold medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards. ‘Ballasalla' is named after the small village on the Isle of Man where Tim grew up, and means ‘place of willows'. The wine is composed of barrels that does not go into the premium ‘Folding Hill' label as well as incorporating fruit grown for contract buyers. www.foldinghill.co.nz
