Baby Doll Rosé 2015 and Yealands ‘Land Made Pinot Noir 2015

The recent news that Yealands is to sell their Crossroads winey in Hawke’s Bay can be seen as a blow the wine scene there, but it does give the opportunity for a new player to come in. For Yealands it makes far greater economic sense to operate from home base in the Awatere Valley working in very modern facilities. Winemaker at Crossroads Miles Dinneen will be relocating to Marlborough, but continue to make the unique styles of wines from their Hawke’s Bay vineyards. Here, I review two wines, the 2015 Baby Doll Rosé made from Hawke’s Bay fruit, the Baby Doll brand, a secondary one for Yealands, named after the miniature sheep employed in the vineyards, and the 2015 Yealands ‘Land Made’ Pinot Noir, the name of which gives credit to the source of the fruit and the role of the land.
